The 2019 Tenth Generation Honda Civic
The 2019 Honda Civic is categorized as a compact car despite being closer to midsize in total interior volume. The current model year offers several variants and trims including the sedan and coupe. The higher end Type R is also offered as a hatchback body style for performance driven consumers. A step down from the Type R is the Si version of the Honda Civic available as a coupe or sedan.
The base model is powered with a 4 cylinder, 2.0 liter engine with rated power output of 158 horsepower. An optional performance upgrade is the turbocharged 4 cylinder 1.5 liter engine capable of 174 horsepower. The smaller engine is capable of improved efficiency and increased gas mileage.
Both the sedan and coupe variants of the Si model come with a 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter turbo engine with 205 horsepower of output. Stepping up to the Type R model will engage a 306 horsepower, 2.0 liter turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. Both the Si and the Type R utilize a manual 6 speed transmission.
The tenth generation sedan and coupe feature new styling changes that modernize and improve the overall look and feel of the car. Interior improvements include increased sound insulation and modern trim and materials that provide a more luxurious feel and comfort. The multimedia display is a touchscreen but the console also has physical controls such as a volume control and buttons for the display audio.
Standard for all models is the Honda sensing active safety features. This includes auto emergency braking, warning if the vehicle is swaying from the lane, auto high beam lights, cruise control that can adapt to conditions, forward collision alert, and assist for keeping in the lane. The honda sensing features are not included for the Si and Type R models.
Civic Si vs Type R
The Civic is packed with new features depending which trim you choose. Aside from the safety features that come with the honda sensing suite, the sport trim adds the display audio touchscreen system that incorporates multimedia, apple carplay and android auto functionality. Connect your smartphone with ease and it will be fully supported. Bumping up to the EX trim adds the lanewatch feature from honda. This system has a camera to monitor blind spots particularly on the non driver side of the car. This will aid in spotting objects or bicycles that will be difficult to see otherwise.
Honda Civics are famously good value. They are packed with features and one of the best selling cars. If you want an affordable base model or the exhilaration of the Type R, it’s worth considering the turbo engine for it’s performance advantages including fuel efficiencies.
